This is exactly the kind of stuff purple have resorted to all too often since they reformed. The question I always ask is, 'if it was on In Rock, or Fireball, would you have bought it?' The answer's 'no'. Fine for your average, run of the mill tripe-peddlar, but not what Purple should aspire to. Would have fitted with most of the crap on 'House of Blue Light', but thankfully, nowhere near as good as 'Rapture...'.

And on the subject of lyrics, Blackmore has been happy with some of the tosspot lyrics written for Rainbow and, to a lesser degree, Purple since they reformed, so he's not the best of judges.

Actually, all in all not a bad tune.....
BUT!!!!!

Lyrics and vocals kill it. If it was shortend in the middle by around a minute, and proper lyrics and vocal put on, it would be a pretty good song. The refrain 3 minutes into the song is great, but needs to happen a minute sooner and remove the sinceless vocal chatter during it.

Singer sounds like a cross between JLT and Joey Tempest from "Europe". Both great singers, but both make my skin crawl and I can only take them for a short time. After a short while, I want to pour gasoline all over myself and strike a match.

Not a bad tune at all, once you redo it with proper vocals and lyrics.

My opinion....but SPOT ON!!!!!

Cheers

Doesn't this riff sound a little like a staggerd version of knockin' at you back door?? And as for blackmore liking the lyrics i quote "Rock me like a huricane?" "Take me to a cosmic plain?" I don't think so...they are so dumb!! Perhaps we may have heard them once or twice before...? Back in the 70's/80's? Nothing wrong with that era of course...i loved it. But this music of ours should be more challenging and progressive...Don is of course an incredible musician and I know he loves rock. But I'm pretty sure that if he played this to Purple for potential inclusion on there next album, it would have been rejected!

Concerning DP playing the Kremlin (yeah,I was asleep) ;

Joe Lynn Turner(around 1990) :

"Let's face it, the CREDIBILITY is lost. We have to crawl our way back up like bitches..."

Maybe Ian Gillan heard : Whores instead of bitches?

Does NOT remind me of DOWN TO EARTH which is one of my favourites.

I like the sound , the Hammond(I wish Jon came back to do a rerun on Perfect Strangers and House of Blue Light and The Battle Rages On.................SYNTHS are dreadful. I said it then and I was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)but I am not very happy with the singer..........

I do like harmonies though..............

The vocals sound like Biff Byford having his bollocks gripped like Gene Hackman did to that redneck in missippi burning in the bar scene, in short it sounds like a typical 80's opening act with limited PA use, my old school reports consisted of much do better, back to school Don.

Ah yes, this is quite good and with a little tweaking, I think that at least part of that sounds like it could work on a Purple CD, Different ideas are always welcome, I think that Blackmore would like those lyrics

Every Purple fan should visit this interview and then click on the link to the sample "Shooting Star." Let me save you some time:

http://www.mascotrecords.com/assets/File/music/54_Shooting%20Star.mp3

From the first growls of the Hammond, this song is fabulous! Parts are a little reminiscent of "Perfect Strangers," but the rest would have been at home on "Down to Earth." Graham Bonnet would have been right at home.

The riff could have been saved for Purple's next album!

Looking forward to *this* one. Enjoy!
