Blackmore’s Night UK tour

Blackmore's Night

Here are the setlists for the first 4 dates of the UK tour. Support was a Czech Folk/Renaissance band Gothien. Reading show was cut short and even was on a brink of cancellation due to tensions between Blackmore and promoter/venue. Too bad that it happens, as it’s none of the audience’s fault and they are stuck with the short set. But that’s the possibility you should be prepared for when going to see His Blackness. One hand giveth and the other one taketh.

Don Airey was spotted in the Birmigham audience and, reportedly, quite enjoyed the show.

I would have loved to se the show in York on 12/6. To hear SOTW played by the ONLY person who can play it would have been wonderfull.

Cant anybody find a way to have Ritchie playing a combination of Blakmores Night and a Rainbow/Purple set. To me that would give everybody a chance to see him playing what he loves and what he is best at. That is not the same if you ask me.

    Tom Green says:

Typical of Ritchie to not play an encore when I feels like it. I wouldn’t pay to see this man. He may be one of the most talented guitarists in the world, yet is he is also the most moody and childish.

    John Bartone says:

The guy’s an ass!! Nobody cares!! Long live the d.p. Morse era!!! Looking forward to Radio City(NYC) & Connecticut!!! See you there…

p.s Sometimes I Feel Like Drinking.. Or is it “Screaming”..(Still in the top 3 set list poll)… A true d.p. staple!!

    Mark Bee says:

Blackmore seems to be one of the few who can do what he wants. He can get a record out, and draw crowds to concerts. He did this with Purple, Rainbow, and now with Night. Never unemployed. Cool.

    Dave says:

Saw them at Reading, good but no encores!!! Why? They are paid to be entainter’s are they not! The crowd wanted it but they felt otherwise SHAME!!!

    Bob says:

I think that Ritchie is finished with Deep Purple’s music. That is why he left the band. Time to expand to other styles of music. He probably got tired of playing the same old thing. It’s not good to go stale. One must explore different paths and create something different. Good luck to him.

  9. 9
    John Bartone says:

Ritchie “quit” d.p. in the middle of a tour because yes, he was tired of it but he also thought the band would certainly fold… Long live the Morse era!!!!

  10. 10
    Dave says:

He is missing the limelight and is no doubt jealous of the success that DP are having without him! playing to half emtpy halls!!!! He must be thinking WHY, but then HE was the one who turned down Live Aid, that sums him up!.

    Bob says:

Has anyone seen the DP dvd Come Hell Or High Water? check it out. In the middle of the Highway Star solo, Blackmore stops playing, walks to the other side of the stage and starts throwing water on the stage crew while the other members of the band are playing the song than he comes back and halfass finishes the solo. There were intereviews through out the video and the other members of the band said that Blackmore did not want to be there at all and that the fans were hurt because of his performance and the band was very angry at him. Gillian stated Blackmore said to him that Eric Clapton could not play guitar. Blackmore must be in a world of his own. It must be nice to be a legend in your own mind.

Speaking as the bassist and acoustic rhythm guitarist on this tour, some fine ear-opening memories here.

As a result of sharing a stage with Ritchie, upon returning home to my solo gigs, my own “voice” as an acoustic guitarist opened up. I’m sure this was due in no small part to Ritchie being a sort of an inadvertent teacher by example. Thanks Ritchie.
