I'm glad there are 2 concerts in this DVD set.
The Montreux 2006 show is very lacklustre and by the book.Nothing fresh or exciting about it.Gillan is hoarse or struggling throughout.Steve continues to noodle around too much.
The special guests leave the encores in shambles !!
It was nice that the band acknowledged Claude Nobs, but they should've have him play harmonica on Lazy.Michael Bradford and his distorted wah-wah ??? Trading solos with Steve ??? You must be kidding !! And who was that bearded idiot who "sang" with Gillan ?? Glover,Paice and Airey do their best to keep things afloat...The show is shot very well and the sound is good.

Thankfully, the Hard Rock Cafe show is far better.Ian Gillan's in great voice,Steve doesn't get carried away soloing, and the performance is energetic. The whole band, crammed onto a SMALL stage, gives 100%
The sound and visuals ?? Think "high quality bootleg"

I will certainly revisit Hard Rock Cafe show more often than Montreux,2006

Does Steve Morse play 'Burn' like on the previous Montreux DVD?

Not bothered about track listing - just salivating over the prospect of more live footage of one of the world's greatest collective of musicians DP.

Can I just praise the production & Editing teams of previous DVDs who have worked for this band - I have learned so much due to critical finger & hand positioning being shown at the right moment - better than the maximum of three seconds per frame/shot that commercial videos adhere to.

Never understood the Harmonics on Steve's intro to Highway Star until I saw where he put his little 'Pinkies' (Now I can sleep at night!).

Perfect Strangers or not - I say BRING IT ON!!!

Cheers all - I'm off to Gillan's Inn for the evening!

True. Live tracks on Rapture Tour Edition were a huge dissapointment. Not for the music itself, but for the crappy sound that gets beaten hands down even by an average bootleg release... Btw, any info on a possible official live album (CD, that is), featuring Don? I mean, DVDs are great, but I'm sort of a sucker for DP live CDs...

The DVD is worth buing. Montreux '06 is one of the best concerts with Steve Morse.
There is a great Jazz-Intro (!!) before "Smoke On The Water".
"Too Much Fun" is a great jam featuring a harmonica-duell by Ian Gillan and Funky Claude Nobs.

I hope the printed setlist is wrong, because "Pefect Strangers" (after the keyboard-Solo) from Montreux is missing there and for this the concert is NOT complete. I saw Perefect Strangers in a TV-concert from that show.

I can't wait for the bonus club concert in the Hard-Rock-Café London.

4:3 aspect ratio?
Montreux recordings are all HD nowadays (16:9 widescreen).
If the video has been cropped to 4:3, that's a very bad thing.

I'll be getting the HD DVD- it should be full 16:9/ 1080p video.

IG did this Too much fun thing as Black Night introduction as far back as 2004(maybe even 2003 can´t remember) which went something like:"I had too much fun last night/I had too much drinks last night/I had too much sex last night etc etc..." but I think they just couldn´t be bothered to write a proper tune.

But I think this whole tourstress thing isn´t really an excuse because DP often worked out songs on tour(like Long Time Gone for the 2000 Montreux Jazz Festival or Well Dressed Guitar on the 2000 pre Concerto Tour) and worked on Fireball and In Rock during dates. Many artists do that Jackson Browne wrote *and* recorded an entire album on tour(Running On Empty)!

I think they just couldn´t be bothered so they did the old semi-impromtu thing instead of Hit The Road Jack for once again. What makes it a track in the end is the seperate listing afterall. :)

mike:
it's not a proper new song, but a jam really, with ad-lib sort of lyrics. the story is that it being 40th festival and all, claude nobs asked them to write a new song. but as the band was on the road at the time, they never had a chance to sit down and write a proper song. so they developed this jam. claude himself came on stage to play harmonica.
