But I also read it is part of the TOURNADO BOX, which has been on sale since the end of 2009, I think.

First I felt puzzled because I did not know what it was.
During the days the gig in Tilburg or 013 got cancelled the TOURNADO name surfaced and THEN I thought it was the name of an supportact or something.
Did not bother for many weeks.

Only later I found on the DIO site that IT IS theirs and it included material from mainly the KILLING THE DRAGON period.
But also that it was meant to be only for sale at the now cancelled tour with Doug.

Well, thats what I understood.

I m not a fan of the hired hand fiddler Doug Aldritch and thought…well hopefully thats that and maybe we ll get Craig Goldy back anyway.

But if its true that ELEKTRA is indeed a recently recorded track and WITH Doug I fear for the worse!!!

Ofcourse I should be glad if Ronnie comes back with a vengeance unexpected by friend or foe but…..

I love those albums, they contain tons of gems.

I m not sure why but I could really enjoy the 90 s with Glenn ON STAGE and STUDIO, but since the turn of the millennium something changed.

Well, we ll see.

“Mistreated” sounds a little different for two reasons, the first of which is that no two guitarists are going to sound alike. Everyone has a style that is as distinctive as a fingerprint. I never cared for Morse’s “Smoke on the Water” riff, but his contribution to the bridge in “Woman From Tokyo” is classic. Any guitarist will put his mark on a covered song.

The second reason “Mistreated” sounds different is due to the choice of equipment. The sound of MkIII had a lot to due with single coils. I have many nice double-humbucker equipped guitars–EMGs, Duncans, Valcos, Alnicos, etc.–but I always find myself gravitating toward the single coilers, be they Fender style or lipstick tube, and it’s that “ching” at crunchy levels that gives that charactersitic Blackmore bite. The above is a more refined, smoother sound, while the original was raw–particularly when played live.

Another contributing factor is that from the camera’s vantage point, the organ sounded very low in the mix. I’m sure this sounded much better in ‘real life’.

That said, it is very early on for this band. The first song was typically Glenn, and any Purple material is going to be an interpretation and that is perfectly fine. I’m all for “Burn,” “Stormbringer,” “Lady Double Dealer” and other classics that Deep Purple has abandoned–songs with which Glenn’s band did so well on Burning Japan Live.

I’m looking forward to that studio album–and hope a live one will be in the works as well. Knowing Glenn, we will get both–soon.

When do they tour Germany? I`ll be there! Joe is great!

as for the comment about twin lead guitar most of those bands dont have a world class keyboard player covering what one guitarist cant.

I dont think there was another issue since which ofcourse is regretful IMO.

I read NOW on page 12 an important piece.

DPAS say there that WE often think and complain that DP tour too much and that they not take enough rest.
Thet CORRECT us with saying that in 2007 the Purps did get 6 months off!!!!!!

I must admit it was surprising for me to re read this because I was too under the impression otherwise.

The “taking a rest” part is ofcourse mainly an issue related to Ian Gillans VOICE and the frustration of waiting for a new album that does not show.

My first thoughts were

If they do take so much rest why could they not , like with FIREBALL record a complete NEW album during the days off?
Why extend the ROTD tour after the rest without playing much of it?

I am not sure what they did OFF but maybe they were doing solo things?
Paicey doing the DEMONS EYE thing for example.
Gillan was probably doing promotion for his book and so on?
Did he not record his last solo effort in 2008?

Bands used to thrive financially on the sale of Cd s and NOT the touring so they could afford to stay home a lot and just wait for the money rolling in.

Ofcourse cds have been OVERPRICED since the beginning and combined with the DOWNLOAD and BURNING craze bands saw their sales destroyed.

Now we are in a time loads of people never will go back into buying but have to toss out a lot of cash to see a band.
There are exceptions to this but in general it has become v ery expensive.

Apart from the priorities I have to make I have to be REALLY enthusiastic about something to shelve out a lot of money for a gig.
It almost never happens anymore.

Will I do a Rasmus and visit more than 1 gig after thge new album?

I STRONGLY DOUBT IT.

But thats “my thing”.

You Americains have my blessings when you feel that you have the urge to see them over and over again filling up their pensionfund by mainly rehashing old MK 2 stuff on the road.

Now then… @12, I for one cannot be sure of the sources here, but it does remind me where they came from, but the thing is with me for instance, I have never opened that DVD to see exactly whats on it, so that’s probably why I myself had not seen the gal announce ‘No No No’, but I suppose I’ll get around to viewing the DVD some day when I have time to watch a double set full of clips I’ve seen more times than I can count because I spent years gathering them and compiling them on disc already. I’d love to see them play Flight of the Rat too, but Paicey doesn’t like this track, so I doubt if it’d ever get played live.

I’t be awesome if they played tracks like Spanish Archer, Mitzi Dupree, Strange Ways, Somebody Stole my Guitar, Perpendicular Waltz, A Touch Away, No No No, The Mule (no need for extended drum solo, but I wouldn’t say no to it), I’m Alone, Slow Train and Freedom to name a few.

It likely wont happen but I’ll be just as happy to see them down here again.

Of course they could surprise me and have the new album finished by the time they get here. Or they can test the new stuff out on us, either way, I’m good.

I should have said, besides the typos, that they did achieve a 2nd position after Bruce Springsteen, which was quite an achievement appearantly.

Maybe we can raise a fund so we can get a proper reuniontour with the REAL DEAL including excellent dvd and cd recordings ?

After that they and we can all go our seperate ways and cherish the good memories instead of having to struggle with this downward spiral?

1)1972: 6 tours? rather 6 legs combined to one tour.
2)Hush? Yeah big hit but only in LA and only in the 60s. Does anyone knew In Rock in US when It was released? second or third hundred in US Billboard,not impressed…In Germany an UK a big one!
3)California Jam: that was a festival ,not one band concert. People went to see DP as well as Black Sabbath,ELP,earth Wind And Fire and YES(who was headlighning after DP concert!)
4)Nowadays ticket sales for a DP show are poor - at least…They have to organise shows togheter with acts like Scorpions,Lizzy or Nugent just to play in small theathres…In europe they sell out almost every show , and in BIG arenas - 15,000 - 20,000 seats! Whether it’s UK,Germany,Poland or Russia….you got answers…US Tour? Maybe some cities in the East Coast plus LA…that’s all….maybe in 2011….

Many years ago US Marillion fans raised money in advance to see the band tour the US because no US promotors were willing to take the chance to set up a tour. Maybe the same thing should be done for DP?

Never thought that I d swith from Cozy Powell to Bobby Rondinelli when I started to compare in 1981

Cozy was like Blackmore and Dio unmatchable but somehow I changed my preference.

Bobby is excellent on the Black Sabbath album CROSS PURPOSES.

I like the BS albums with Cozy very much but somehow I had to notice that I d have loved to have Rondinelli instead.

ETERNAL IDOL and CROSS PURPOSES are my favourite Tony Martin led line ups.

FORBIDDEN , with Powell as well, but that is the lesser of the ones with Martin, IMO.

I dont remember the story behind it but to my recollection FORBIDDEN was recorded after BS tried to reunite with OZZY in 94 after insulting Ronnie.

Very strange that there never was a new studio album with OZZY since 94.

I dont trust the Osbournes.
Maybe its just Sharon but a lot of people were sidelined or shortchanged I think by them

Tracy, you’ve got me wrong too, but I appreciate you thinking you understand. Its not about all of that, check your ego at the door. It was however an instant reaction to the existence of such a thing, reading further, if you did, you will see a mild retraction but of course no Eagle landing or aynthing. To each their own, period! Also, I don’t want it all and will never want it all, its not about that, just looking for something, mostly new/unseen by me and good. Nothing new here that isn’t already available elsewhere thus far. That being said, the fact that it is well organized and devoted to Purple is pretty cool I think. The streaming seams pretty smooth and loads fairly quick.

I kind of understand Ghost’s affliction toward the feeling that it waters down the ‘Collector’s Club’ efforts and exclusive nature of rarities, but in this day and time, with the digital corruption we now live in, the times have changed and that ship has basically sailed. All is available one way or another in some form or another, and this just puts a well organized place to look and listen. I doubt there will be a huge amount of stuff offered here that isn’t already being exploited on YOUTUBE or the likes. At least here, it seems they are using quality versions of vids and giving Purple fans, new and old a place to see more Purple.

T, is correct on his statement regarding the elitist assessment toward Ghost here. As a collector myself, I never cared whether I had something somebody else didn’t have. I just wanted as much as I could find. God bless All who have it all. As to the rarity thing, I don’t hold much value on owning or having ‘Rare Clips’ that can be copied over and over again and shared. They actually are only as rare as the it exclusiveness and in all actuality with the present way to copy and share, those days are truly gone. To me, a rarity is an actual official release, such as a record in it’s original sleeve from the past. Something tangible and real. A video that can be copied or song which can be copied is not rare. It is only as rare as it isn’t shared. You can’t duplicate an official release in it’s original package. Example, having the actual vinyl official release of “Little Brown Jug” by the “Ritchie Blackmore Orchestra” is owning a Rarity. The song has been released on a few compilations since for our listening pleasure. But to actually own the original 45 that the song was originally released on is true collectivity. I spent years looking for that. I already had duped recordings of the song, but having a copy of the original 45 was what I really wanted, along all the original Episode Six singles and so on. Bootleg versions of performance are great and before the digital age were very exclusive and Were very collectable, but now that the internet and digital life has taken hold, no longer is it a big deal. There is so much availability that it no longer is important to me. I enjoy seeing performances of something new that I haven’t seen, but don’t hold it as valuable commodity. The Rare Official Releases are where the prestige is as far as I’m concerned and am glad I began searching for those back the 70’s, because I surely wouldn’t be able to afford them now….Also, the original Bootleg Vinyl Albums in their original sleeves from back in day before the digital revolution are also collectable rarities. Digital copied recordings of those are of no valid collective value other than for it’s listening enjoyment.

This new site gets my total approval and support and am glad to see yet another effort towards exposing our great band Deep Purple to the masses.

That’s a rather elitest assessment. There are plenty of other people who would applaud the effort to make this material easily accessible for all, rather than the property of those who would prefer to keep it hidden or exclusive to themselves.

This is another demonstration of how technology enables the masses to enjoy those media in a relatively effortless manner. Anything that furthers the Purple cause and promotes their legacy is a step in the right direction, collectors be damned.

I may not understand Rap, or Britanny Spears, but I understand they are keeping music alive and as a musician I don’t think ill of them at all.

Of course they will never do another Made in Japan….All Live Recordings are a Once in a Life time thing….good or bad. Plus, the quality and enjoyment is to each individual. For the complainers of the lack of MIJ repeats….that was in 1972. Blackmore and Co. had 21 years to do it again. It Didn’t Happen apparently. Get over it.

Plus, I have seen many performances that stand up to that concert. That particular one was recorded and officially put out by the record Company at the RIGHT TIME. As with All Hits. Timing is everything.

As for Gillan in Sabbath, couldn’t agree more. Loved it as stated multiple times. Saw them and recorded the show. I listen to that recording all the time when in a Sabbath/Purple mood. IMHO the Best Sabbath line-up of all. Most played on my system. Gillan’s versions of the other line-ups live were incredible. He was in his heyday of his screaming ability. IMO even stronger than with Purple in the 70’s. A follow-up lp. would have been awesome. But, we got what we got and as with all the other great Classics, they are what they are. Separate chapters in the great Purple Related Novel of amazing music for us to enjoy, and for some to complain about…

The first 2 with a guitarist to modern for me, I prefer the one he used in Tilburg in 2004…..

This one led to diving into an other song …a great stonking McBrain version of Rythym Of The Beast, incl Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray and on keys a certain Moran who I seem to remember from Gillan or Blackmore. A song?

After completely being absorbed by the Lord section in FACE TO FACE I saw a similar section with mainman Tony Iommi…..

My pc got a bit tired so we had to stop…..

But the main bulk we got ourselves occupied with was the then found FACE TO FACE interviewshow with Rick Wakeman talking to Jon in 9 parts!!!!!

Tried to step into that territory once but somehow I did not get started.

The only detail connected with the Purps must be the suggested connection on the track TOBACCO ROAD, I think.
It did concern the example for Ian Gillan to implement the screaming part as his trademark, so I read.
TO ME it was less impressive evidence than expected and hoped for.

The dressing in white or cream for that matter somehow reminds me of a shot a friend of mine took at the gig in Zwolle.
The picture was taken from afar but very good.

Kinda strange, cause I myself did a series of pics standing up front, just before Geezer Butler to be precise, of Ian Gillan and these dont show the white or cream clothing

I ve understood by now that UP TILL TODAY, we are suffering the consequenses of his choice in that period NOT to rest but soldier on.

After several decades of financial problems he finally got a sense of it all and chose to be very RATIONAL in a buisness sense in 1993 when joining DP again.

Very understandable but I feel that he could have had both sides of the opportunities.

Not touring excessively because , I read they make EACH 30.000 E a person a night……which I find very much to be quite honest, he could have made lots of money and at the same time stay closer to his integrity values IMO.

Now he lost too much of his voice and in a musical sense wasted 16 years with the WRONG MAN.

I m so frustrated about things like this.

Well, time for solace, I ll soon be listening to Jons new album.

An album that WILL stand the test of time.

It’s more a matter of touch than equipment. Blackmore would sound like Blackmore on anything–but a special pedal is a nice short-cut without having to blow the roof off the house I suppose. I once did such an experiment and had to quit when the window glass began to rattle out of the frames. Now THAT’S science!

Dirk’s Les Paul comment was very interesting. Blackmore’s best MkII playing was on that old ES-335, and I miss those days. The reel-to-reel was another astute observation, since that tape delay also had a lot to do with Blackmore’s sound.

Right now listening to a copy of Grahams Bonnets contribution to ANTHEMS “Heavy Metal Anthem”.
Finally!!!!!
I never got around buying it because it was always expensive and still.

Reluctantly I asked a friend to provide me with a copy, downloaded from the Net.
I dunno how that works, I dont have a passion for the technical aspects of the computer and Internet.

At the ALCATRAZZ gig I recently attended in Kerkrade I asked the man behind the table who was selling Bonnet related material about it.
The man, who is the current bassplayer in the band, said even he had trouble finding it.

Such a shame, things like that.

Well, off thread maybe although Bonnet is ofcourse part of the Purple Puzzle.

Glad I witnessed that strange chapter live as well.

I know Gillan was not the skinniest man around but a DVD of a show would have been grand as well.

And I have had my share of seeing Glenn with long manes a few times since 93, so……

Not to forget that HE did SOTW for a large live audience in Rotterdam AHOY in 2007.

MK3 not making it to DUTCH concerthalls way back but Glenn more than once played great versions of MK 3 and 4 material with his solo band sonce 93
Topping it with doing THIS SONG about which he once said it had nothing to do with him years later whereas I d not have minded if he had only done solo work.

Wouldnt it have been informative to ask both Coletta and Edwards about how THEY managed Mark 2 around 1972?
Are THEY not one of the main reasons the band collapsed after too much work?

I’m with you. An instrumental version would be different. Back in the day, Santana used a Hammond organ; therefore, something along the lines of the Made in Japan version with extended soloing for both guitar and organ would be appropriate, and you idea of the guitar doing the vocal phrasing (à la Satriani)is a good idea.

Adam Lambert? If we’re talking Idol singers, I’d go with David Cook. He’s more likely to have heard of the song, and he’s from my home town!

The topic here is the song “Silver Arrows (Racing On)”. Turner is not related to this project. What did you think of the MUSIC?

The song has a great hook and it stuck in my head for a long time. As a car enthusiast (I have a 1LE Camaro, an Indy 500 Official Truck and a couple of convertibles), it’s something I really relate to. If one is going to make a stretch to Turner, I got a bit of “Death Alley Driver” feeling from it (”One-hundred twenty-five, smokin’ on the turns…”)

But what really knocked me out was the guitar playing, which I found very clean and quite reminiscent of JR’s dad. Like Blackmore the Elder, JR has a grip on the idea that sometimes it’s not about playing a zillion notes a bar (à la Malmsteen), but *holding* a note from time to time and letting the harmonic feedback do the work. Very tastefully done. I was impressed.

Sometimes, as they say, it’s the notes you DON’T play.
