Well I know who I'd rather see live: hint - it ain't the one in tights. RB is still a genius but his music has become an endless rehash of itself. He has essentially made the same album 7 or 8 times in a row and what started out as a promising adventure has become a bland and predictable excursion into pseudo-mediaevel middle-of-the-road pop. It's safe predicatable conservative music. Contrast that with Steve Morse who continues to experiment with styles, genres, line-ups, forms etc. I don't like everything he does but at least he's not just doing the same thing over and over again. And no I'm not trying to rehash all those tedious 'who is better' arguments that go nowhere. It's just that I still love Ritchie as a guitarist but I find myself constantly disappointed at what his music has become.

Quite surprising to see such narrow-minded comments from Purple fans...

I have to admit, that I do not really like rap or hip-hop, and find it kind of funny seeing for instance Finnish artists (cross the last word over if you like...) doing the same thing. As a Finn I find that kind of music pretty distant to me, as there is a cultural connection, isn't there? But still, to hate a genre...get a life, will you. Hats off to anybody seriously expressing oneself in a way or another musically, whether you like it or not personally.

Another issue is music that is crap. There always has been that stuff and always will be, but it does not necessarily have to do with the genre.

By the way, many contemporary top musicians criss-cross between genres, which is understandable and should be encouraged, as it keeps music evolving AND developes playing styles and methods of making music. Why should we (fans) get stuck, then?

i think comment #10 nails it basically. best comeback on this site of 'know- it- all's' in my 'know-it all- opinion'! ritchie has been in the music biz for alot longer and it shows. i think steve is awesome too. there is no mistaking a true musician that can convey taste, emotion, and an ability for improvisation. oh, and #19, how about that hurdy gurdy playing!?!

Re: #19

Blackmore could quit cold today, and the body of work he has done in the past would still make him the greatest overall hard rock guitarist to ever pick up the instrument. The fact that he has mastered yet another genre just adds to that greatness.

I've seen both several times and there will never be anything more impressing than ritchie!
Who wrote all the great songs in dp and rainbow? Who had the courage to leave dp and go his own ways with rainbow and bn? Who had the highest record-sales? On whom focus all these discussion in the forums even though not with purple anymore? Who's the real legend?
Ritchie is definitely the greatest!
Steve is a really nice guy and a great guitarist but blackmore is outstanding.
Cheers to crimson ghost

I'll be supporting this release for sure, I think along with the Angel Aire 79-80 BBC CD it will go very well in serving up the best live documents in the tons of shows they played over the best of those years. The 1980 BBC show is the very best imo, that show is amazing! I agree it should be included.

So much loopiness on these blogs. Moreblack, I have to re-quote you if I may. Steve is a genius, Ritchie is a genius.

As far as "you don't have to smile to be charismatic", a smile is beyond one of many elements of what makes up a charismatic person. Perhaps head to Webster's for a better understanding of the word? And that doesn't mean that The Man in Black is any less charismatic because of his stone face....

#10 nails the obvious. Remove them blinders, Blackers....

Va Voom!

Peace,

Ted

Btw Ian......

You ll probably forgive me for not collecting everythin all the time.

You once said you could not understand why people could be so fanatic about completing their collections.

I d like to have your signature, something you altered I think around 2000?, but asking you for it again might be a burning experience, hehehe

In the meantime I m glad I do have the ones you gave me way back and I ll never SELL them.

Signatures on Future Shock the ltd vinyl, Cherkazoo, Mr Universe, The Japanese Gillan, The inlaybooklet of Concerto 69, Jesus Christ Superstar.....

Man, I felt like a monkey with 3 dicks.

Sorry for the expression.

Just slipped through.

Cheers.

As I stated in prior blogs here....I had tickets and went to see BOTH, 2 days apart. Steve Morse in South Carolina and Ritchie in North Carolina, with Halloween in between. I have much to say here but need more time to put it together, pictures too. Don't want to repeat what has been stated here. I recorded both and have much to say about both. I will present a 'Subject' if the 'Moderators' and 'News' folks think it is 'Worthy'......lately they seem to be boycotting my News.
If it doesn't show, then all I can say here is that they 'Overmoderated'....

Give me a few days....

Cheers

Yeah, I was going to mention the somewhat eventful evening. I just wasn't quite sure what happened. It seemed interesting that they claimed the manager/culprit's name was Ian. I figured Ritchie (would he do such a thing, hmmm) either made up the name or possibly even the story in order to get everyone to chant "Ian Sucks" which they did.

Destructive behaviour replaced by egocentric capitalistic greed.

Glad that people who have created, and that implies stupid voters as well, this recent perverted financial situation will BURN in hell soon.

Ofcourse there is no God, No justice, No Hell......
And everything will continue this way.....

I suppose you did well Rascal?

Hopefully not at someone elses expense......

Thought, sincerely, that I was being honest and paid Stevie a compliment on his looks.

Or do you imply you understand where I was going from with the last sentence?

I thought most of us here liked it this way, DP with a friendly boyscout instead of a furious enigmatic devil on board?

Comparing is a INDEPEDENT control system.
I dont have anything to do with it.

But I m also very fond of later Rainbow days.

And hate Steve Morse era days...
Seems illogical.....I do know that.

In my opinion there´s no dought RJD is the far superior vocalist of them all! When Ritchie decided to take a far more commercial direction, he reduced Rainbow to a "second class Journey" ! Nothing wrong with Journey if you´re into whimpy pussy rock, but why destroy such a heavy, enigmatic and grand class act and pussyfie themselves just to sell more records is beyond me! I´m sure if Ritchie had stuck to the initial formula, they would eventually have sold shitloads of records anyway! They could even have been the new Zeppelin and filled the void when "Bonzo" snuffed it! What could have been........??????

Nothing wrong with Journey if you´re into whimpy pussy rock, but why destroy such a heavy, enigmatic and grand class act and pussyfie themselves just to sell more records is beyond me! I´m sure if Ritchie had stuck to the initial formula, they would eventually have sold shitloads of records anyway! They could even have been the new Zeppelin and filled the void when “Bonzo” snuffed it! What could have been……..??????

good day everyone...

We drove in from Montreal to the Boston show - it was fantastic!!!...I have been waiting since the last time I saw him (1985) when he was with that "other " band...;o)
As Frank said - he was enjoying himself on the stage and with the band members, especially Candace. The show was truly entertaining and most enjoyable.I found myself forgetting to breathe as he played the solo in Black Night!! Very unfortunate about the 11PM curfew - he played until midnight (!!!) in Philly. Can`t wait `til the next road trip!!

@7 nice comment and point of view-- true how Turner era Rainbow scored them in the lime light. though i believe "down to earth" was their best stuff. as for Dio--he was the only Rainbow singer who can stand alone in any band.

Indeed, he has never been positive about JLT, so its not a change.

I sense more sour grapes in THIS interview about RB than before.....
He has not always spoken this negative about him.
So.....
Well, we all change from time to time.....

Loving someone dearly, trying to be diplomatique after the break up.....helped by still loving them, and sometimes breaking loose in a negative way cause you feel betrayed, left behind.....

Btw, its from this so called questionable site, isnt it Larry?

Can you explain a bit why you think so?

They are both 2 great guitarists. Why bother with all the comparing and knocking them. Blackmore wrote the classics and now Morse is playing them.

Steeley Dan is a bit polished but ok now and then, yes.......

It resembles in that department the taste of Bill Clinton who liked Fleetwood Mac?
Maybe he d like BN too.......

How about a bit of Jamaican reggae, good music, beautiful country.

Tony Blair- another Has-Been. Seems to be a common theme for some.

Steve Morse has nothing to prove........a guitar legend

Stupid questions, stupid answers?

He wrote the songs because Roger triggered him to start.
He likes to express him himself and ofcourse he needs the money.

Does he really wants us to go count his songs?!
I will burn copies of it instead, less trouble....
Sorry Ian.....

I like to have them but will wait for 2nd hand or a cheapie....

Must admit, I dunno yet what I d have to pay for this release?
Does it come in vinyl as well~?
That might excite me....

Im glad Dio/Rainbow finished when it did otherwise we may had missed out on Dio/Sabbath and his own band, and that just wouldnt do!

They are few and with no arguments, Southern Steel :-) Steve is friendly and nice though. Oh, and Split Decision is better than Southern Steel in my opinion, even though everyone says opposite to that. It's only Simple Simon that caught my attention for repeated listening, over and over again, it's catchy.

...and if somebody will hope Blackmore invites Morse to play some notes with him on stage (or the opposite), it will be me. I think people will love it..

Maybe they could play some notes from Blackmore's Night track or Morse's track which will show a product of their skills and their styles. I know it's easy because both of them are genius guitar player.

Cheers

Who said that? I see the quotation marks but don't recall where it was lifted.

Priest,
When will you stop taking shots at Morse? You do it at every last possible chance, and thats your petty annoyance, let_it_go... aspire higher, before you expire! Get a hold of yourself.

Hi Andrea :-) I do see your side. I thought you were talking about a particular incident, or incidents.

BN isn't for everybody, especially if you're expecting masterful Hard Rock.

But IMO BN is quite masterful in its own
genre.

We'll agree to disagree, ok ?

Your vision of RB is enticing to many, myself included :-)

I didn't see any Blackmore bashings in that interview. Ronnie was being honest and also said that he is genius and so he is, but no matter how much you love Blackmore as a musician (and I do), it is obvious that he can be a difficult almost vindictive character. This fact doesn't make me admire his work less, just helps me understand how and why MkII broke up in 1973 at a time when they were the biggest selling band in the world.

Does BN bring support acts with them as well?

Die Geyers from Germany or.......?

Support acts are a waste of time and are one of the main reasons the schedule of the headliner gets stuuck in some short time schedule.....

Weird......

Is there a source that says Obama likes rap? Or is just concluded because he s a , ahem, coloured man?

He might as well likes old Motown and old fat niggas doing great blues on which lots of our favourites got inspiration from.

I like alot of music by blacks but HATE things like rap and hip hop.....

Some R and B, the modern one that is, only appeals to me because of some nice attractive exterior design and a bit of good voices.
Apart from that, most blacks make terrible music compared to their predecessors in the past
Waste their beautiful talent on SHIT is something I cannot comprehend.

Does anybody know some good music by blacks after the 70 s????

Like to know.....

Probably I get linked to jazz music of people still playing blues?
I do recall there are some beautiful Classical Singers in the female department as well.

Would Obama like BURN or Stormbringer?

Tony Blair, one of the people in line to become president of the EU, is known to have run away from school to get in line for a MK 2 Deep Purple gig.
Thats so cool!!!

Apart from that, he s a very educated man, I think.
Lots more content than some others.

But to me you cant be NOT committing to the Euro and distancing yourself all the time from Europe and then deliver the first president.

Apart from that, should we not be able to CHOOSE someone like that instead of that we are just getting him chosen from above?

Sorry, forgot reality and the cynical nature of it.....

Last week our MP was in the running for the title.
See HIS choice of music and weep all night long.
Ever heard of Franz Bauer?
Cant provide the link, still Digi Dombo, but you SHOULD compare that to IN ROCK and you ll know,,,,,,

Our MP is in the running because he s able to let him self be dominated by the others.....

One can say whatever of Mister Blair but NOT that....
He would let us know that he has a VISION.

So, I m not an defender of both.

Maybe some Belgian politiciam then?
At least they like French Fries.....

No bread and games but French Fries and Real Rock And Roll every day, YES!!!!

Some wine or a rum coke and I m happy.....

Dio has always busted on Turner, nothing at all new there, but 'envy' him? I doubt that much. I do hate it when he talks smack about others though, same with Gillan, Blackmore, Coverdale, Hughes and Turner himself... they all tend to do it and that is a fact.

I´d sure like if Mr.Morse did a couple of shows somewhere near me (Denmark)!
I´m very curious what he can do on his own, have no doubts he´ll probably be exellent! ROCK ON !

That all depends on how you define 'charisma', if you think rarely smiling and being famous for moodiness and firing lots of people is charasmatic then so be it, but I define it differently. Steve Morse has loads of charaisma, I think you're looking for any way to divide them.... give up, its not a contest in any way, niether playing nor personality wise.

Great comment 'purplepriest'.I'm also tired of Ronnie's comments about Blackmore's moods and ego. Every great artist has big ego, ex.DIO=GOD.Why he won't tell about Ritchie's wicked sense of humor (check Lemmy's comment),about good stuff.I love RB,DIO, DP, and every time someone brings some crap out I go like Ohh.. Every great artist has big ego, ex.DIO=GOD.Why he won’t tell about Ritchie’s wicked sense of humor (check Lemmy’s comment),about good stuff.I love RB,DIO, DP, and every time someone brings some crap out I go like Ohh..
Peccadillos?

Are you talking about my shoes?

I prefer to walk the earth all year long on naked feet.
But its no climate for that.....

Yesterday I saw a nice and interesting doc about Fleetwood Mac on BBC 1.After that they sent a live show from Clapton and Winwood, way to goooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fleetwood Mac, talking about a band with great tensions within!!!!!
And what about their excessive behaviour acting like superstars....like there was no tomorrow.

Fleetwood and Mc Vie, the rythymsection admitted that they, though they still love England and Europe......they cant stand the COLD!!!
Too old to cope with the weather overhere....

Me too, every year its getting worse....

And no money to escape to Hawai or Maui.....

Living in the cold partly due to my 3 decades of DP and co addiction.....Spending all that money....

Wish I had all that money I spent......

On that and ahem junkfood and booze.....

No regrets about the rest.....

Espescially not about my cats.....

I agree the Somerville show was great, but it did take forever for the show to actually start, so I imagine that may have played a part in the abrupt ending. I've seen other shows there go on without a hitch, so I imagine the stage manager is not 100 percent at fault here ...

Well, both great guitar players.
But there is more to it than being a great guitarplayer I think. And then Ritchie has so much more charisma than Steve...

You can feel it in the hall when he walks on stage, there is a vibe going trough the air, something I don't experince with Steve, how good a guitarist he is.

Isnt it about time the moderators stopped pandering to the majority? Please only use material and postings that are relevenat to Mr. Priests 'peccadillo's'................

In other words no more SM/DP material, or any other 'stuff' that may suggest that RB isnt a god.

Its very upsetting!

Priest, I think ROTD is loud because of mastering level regulations causing white noise. I like Bananas better myself a tad, it plays more like a Purple album and less like a disco album. The disco factor comes from its flat drum mix, ploddy pace and spit shined demo approach.

Remastered?
Hhhmm, there were a lot of complaints about the recent so called remasters, some said they simply weren't even remastered. My copy of the Singles Remastered definitely sounds upgraded though, so who knows.

Serious collectors don't buy into every aspect of the trade, that's all there is to it. A reason to collect at this point must be an educated one by now or else...

I agree with you Bo. RB is lightyears above the rest, and to be honest I wouldn't like to see him jumping in his sixties like that he's twenty years old. He expressed his guitar skills in various ways, he came with so many ideas and subtle style impregnations - HR with classical, Middle East themes with HR, medieval style, etc. The guy is mastermind of DP and Rainbow legendary riffs - he never limited himself, and lately he succeed with neo-medieval band and has produced really great music, if you like that kind of music, but even if you don't, you'll find a lot of great touches and new ideas musicaly. He has just reached what very few guitar players can reach. Therefore, it's ridicylous to me seeing people always talking about his temper - that's issue for his wife, not for us. Ritchie is one of the most talented guitar players ever. You can hardly compare him with someone.

Hi everyone,
We are flying all the way from the USA to the see the band at the Hammersmith in London on the 15th.
It will be my friends birthday and she wanted to celebrate her big day listening to her all time favorite band.
I was wondering, do anyone of you know if the band will be hanging out after the show to sign autographs or us fans take pictures with them?
I wanted my friend to have a photo with her man Ian and the rest-it would be an awesome b-day gift for her.
Thanks so much and I am really excited for the concert-all the best

Re: #4

You make some interesting observations in that Blackmore is indeed the target of undue criticism which just seems to pop up out of nowhere from time to time--particularly on a "slow news day".

It is interesting to read the negative comments about an off-night performance, then read the glowing praise from some of these same detractors when Blackmore's Night hit the target on a subsequent good night.

Regarding the Dio interview, Ronnie Dio is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time--and remains so even today. He is a true original who, along with early Rainbow, does not receive much of the credit for practically inventing the heavy metal genre--from the castle and dungeon lyrics and stage props to the way he articulates himself on stage.

However, he does have a case of sour grapes. Unable to incorporate wizards and killing the king into Blackmore's more mainstream-oriented radio-friendly vision, he had to go--and the post-Dio years saw the biggest commercial success in the band's history, particularly under Turner's tenure. Dio sees this as both a betrayal and a sell-out. Could there be some envy as well? Those first three Dio-era Rainbow albums are arguably Rainbow's best. The next four, however, contained the hits. From a professional standpoint, Blackmore was right. Nobody likes a guy who always seems to be right.

The fact that Blackmore called up Turner for a session with Blackmore's Night also must be a bitter pill for Dio to swallow. That Blackmore is happy and having a great time in his current position is something that many people--Dio included--cannot understand.

I believe that Dio is still waiting for that phone call for a rock reunion. It's not a call HE needs--even if WE would like to see it happen. Dio is as iconic as an individual as he is as part of a band.

In that regard, Dio needs to refrain from the Blackmore-bashing, look forward, and to continue being one of rock's greatest vocalist-songwriters. Like he, I believe his voice has many years left.

Graham Bonnet and Luciano Pavarotti are the best and biggest (to me these two are 99% synonymous) voices ever sounded. Bonnet is the only one alive today, and I do hope for quite a while longer (or until the world find a singer who sings at least... half of what he does)! A little secret, too: he was always the best between the two mentioned (sorry, Luciano - you were ALMOST there...)

I'm sure it was a great evening, but RB has always been lightyears above the rest. Where is Page today (did you say Page who????) and even Steve Morse is getting more and more boring. RB still comes up with the greatest playing of them all.
I would love to see him back in hard rock, or at least in a combination of BN and hard rock. That would be a dream come true - just like when DP Mrk II came back +/- 25 years ago.

I have only one problem - WHY ON EARTH IS BN NOT PLAYING IN DENMARK THESE YEARS????????????

They were awesome , and worth the wait , since 1997 . this was the first visit to the Boston area .
I'm not going to add , or take away from this review , it was a fantastic performance , from a fantastic band .
The review didn't mention that the set was cut short by a stage manager whom alegedly told Richie and Candice while they were backstage during a violin solo (*I think it was a violin solo) that they better get their @$$ off stage or he would cut the power !
This 'development' took place at a point in the show , where you had already settled in to the vibe of the evening , and were comfortable with what ever piece of treasure they performed from their repertoire , and were waiting to see if they were going to play that special one that you hold the most endeared .
That said , it is notable that the members of Blackmore's Night managed to have the croud exit in good spirits , and not feel so depressed over the premature finale .
I know i HOLD NOTHING AGAINST THE BAND FOR THIS ,
When I heard that BMs/N was coming to BOS. I was pretty psyched , but when I heard they were playing The Somerville Theater , I became doubly psyched . The Somerville
would be the ideal venue in the BOS area for BMs?N to play at , but that encounter at the end of the performance casts some doubt on the stage management dept. personnel . I hope both organizations come to terms with whatever that rift was about , because I sure hope we get another shot , someday to see Blackmore's Night do their complete set in the BOS area , and preferably at The Somerville Theater .

I agree. I caught BN in New York City and it dawned on me...Ritchie has now launched three very successful bands - Purple, Rainbow and Blackmore's Night. How many other musicians can make that claim? We didn't get enough of the stratocaster at the New York show, but the night was still great fun.

Nice post Frank, you know how they say "they were meant for each other"? They apparently were not talking 'bout RB and Big Ian. Sounds like Ritchie has found happiness as has his old foe Gillan. Good luck to both, but I prefer Deep Purple's harder music.
Cheers

I wish EVERYONE enough money.

Yep, me commie......

The record sales.....

Its not only DP fault.....

One should have lowered CD prices ages ago and it would not have come this far that they have to ask ridicilous prices fro shows to get by.

But, ofcourse, this an old discussion too.....

Should reinstall my grammophone again....

Me getting old too....

What the hell......

I m gonna put on that Maxi single, unreleased I think or is on the latest ripp off best of by Rainbow?, with Stranded and All Night Long......

@ 39

I think the story IS and should be that they measured DP once during MK 2 days in a small hall.
Thats why they got on record, so silly.....

I have the experience of going to gigs since 1980 and I m sure that Rainbow and DP shows were never too loud.....

The sound was often clear and loud enough....

Thats how it should be...

Such a waste of time, money, talent and so on to spoil an evening by distorting the sound up to a hurtful experience.

Hey Tracy

Cant YOU put out some good remixes with your equipment?

I once had a friend with a good equaliser who boosted my bootleg of Rainbow In Rotterdam in 1981 it was shocking!!!!

Since then I never got round to realising that kinda thing for myself.

Wish I had.....

I m one of those silly people who dont like the high pitc of CD sound ....
I m that crazy I sometimes fantasize about recording every cd onto tape to get back to that warm analogue sound......

Yeah, me Strange Kinda Man.....

But harmless, I know.....

I do understand the Muppets association.

Ofcourse things can be funny but.....using rabbits and so on on stage???!!!

It completely remembers me of Ritchies saying many moons ago that he could not understand why the great Paul Mc Cartney kept on playing music for children.......

Have fun Tracy

You are getting it well organised I see.

Give my regards to John and Yoko, will ya?

I read in the article you supplied that THEY will make another new album after the forhcoming gigs in the USA.
Talking about work ethics!!!

So my and some others fantasy that the Master is waiting bemused in his castle for the boys getting ready with rehearsing before he steps in......

Unfortunately.....

Another album with Barbie.

I found ONE song of the new SM album on YouTube.

Although its not very original and a tad Zeppelinesque.....I like Zeppelin......it was ok.
And you know what I feel about......

My feeling was that it sparkled more than ROTD, had a good production.....
It sounds like he does finally what he likes.

Maybe you can post a link to more songs of the album?

Moderator, please act.....

We re drifting off again.

The thread started with Lemmy on Blackers.

Now its getting off topic by James Jay.

Sorry JJ, just kidding.
Just noticed how things go......

Funny thing about IG indeed.
Cant remember the wedding detail though.

2 other great stories about IG are ....

The occassion on which he burned dollars in front of the eyes of the bartender who did not pay him respect.THIS IS YOUR TIP.

The moment he got frustrated by a phone in the hotel and send it destroyed to the lobby with the words THIS PHONE IS NOT WORKING.....

Must be great to afford that kinda behaviour, get away with it.....

Although it might get some cynical because one gets away only with murder because you re worth some money that levels the situation.

I read the interview last night with Dio on that site from Greece.

Must be cucumbertime again.....

Nothing special to talk about......
The system wants to fights something like a body wants to fight deseases, allergies and so on.....
The situation is theres nothing to fight about, lets slag something which does not need to be slagged anymore,,,,,

Suddenly RB bashing all around....

Its always all his fault isnt?!

DIO blames a lot on him and slags off JLT in one sentence.....
Dissappointed in you Ronnie.

What did Joe ever do to you that you talk so sour about him?

Ok, I remember you called him a NON ORIGINAL, just a 2nd hand Lou Gramm!
Maybe if you d have had the grace and maturity to write a few love ballads for lyrics you could have rocked on for some more years with him?

Everyone knows that a battle is to be fought within not by leaving the stage....

A pity this site does not take the trouble to put a few more beatiful new threads about POSITIVE things.

And I dont mean the zillionth of time promoting your Big Brother Mister Zero by boring us to tears with some more threads about his last solo effort.

Everyone I speak lately is NOT impresed and find it an unoriginal and boring effort for a man his stature!!!!

Passionate people like OTR who are doing a great job and giving loads of people long awaited wishes come true....
They DESERVE some more spotlights instead giving stage to people who nothing better than do than repeating their personal insults.

So, where are the threads to great quality YouTubes????!!!

If you can post newies of BN and DP than you might as well can do the same for OTR.

Have a nice weekend!

Nice story, but the "Rock" is quite mistaken about Cornell never hosting another rock concert. For instance, the Grateful Dead played a legendary show there in 1977.

A classic no-win situation, especially for the fans, but it looks like Ritchie made the right decision since it did actually rain that day.

What other decision could have been made ?
Risk electrocution ?

@1: Couldn't agree more.

If you read the track lists you'll notice that they've really rolled the boat out on this one reverting to the original CD issue of Scarabus complete with the out of place live recording of My Baby Loves Me from the Live at the Budokan set. They couldn't even be bothered to source the most recent Edel masters which, even if not remixed from the multi tapes at least restored the tracks to the correct albums.

I feel humbled that these people make such an effort on my behalf....

The band has been going down slowly for at least ten years now. During that time they have made some good new music. Sometime in the next ten years it will come to an end. They're a group of old men. They're in no hurry to do anything. They make their living by playing alive. And in the meantime they're probably having fun doing it. They do what they to do, and if we don't like it, it's not anybodys's problem. They'll make another album, if they will. If we don't like it, who's to blame? Let the guys do what they please. We all have our own lives to live. How many years do we have left?

And in the meantime they’re probably having fun doing it. They do what they to do, and if we don’t like it, it’s not anybodys’s problem. They’ll make another album, if they will. If we don’t like it, who’s to blame? Let the guys do what they please. We all have our own lives to live. How many years do we have left?

Thanks for posting info on the book guys. Couple quick things though. it's NOT hardcover. And yes, I've done these five Ye Olde Metal books which have chapters on sorta 15 to 18 albums each, some obscure, many just sorta classic.
Thanks again... hope y'all dig the Purple book. I don't know about definitive, but yes, there's not as many Deep Purple books out there as there should be.

Everyone percieves an album differently. It goes the same with art. I think his comments are with regard to new SMB offering, not DP. 'Out Standing in Their Field' is a very lyrical album, lots of melody there, there is no time for boredom. When you hear it for the first time and do not pay attention to what is actually happening on the record, you may never find yourself a place when you come back. But then, it is a pleasure.

Touring schedule is what it is. I would like them to spend some more time doing 'their' things and in the studio as Deep Purple, but it seems they are happy when they are on the road. It does not always go with their plans and hopes, but that is how it is. Besides they have alwas been a touring band. Heaps for the new record Steve, brilliant!

Not sure if any of u remember a Blackmore interview to Hit Parader or one of those other rock magazines around 1985. Somebody asked him where do you get some of your ideas and he said to the interviewer JUST STEAL. NOW with that in mind take a long listen to the song TOO MUCH by a fellow named ELVIS PRESLEY better known as the KING OF ROCK AND ROLL. I think you will recognize that part of that song became a Deep Purple Mark One Classic. Take a RIFF change the lyrics around a little, add a little back beat, change the tempo a tad and walla there you have it head to the studio for some cool recording and press it to vinyl

I have had the pleasure of seeing Purple about thirteen times including the Machine Head and Fireball tours, Perfect Strangers Tour and I must say they never hurt my ears, ringing yes On the other hand I did see the Who in 1973 just before Keith Moon passed. Now those blokes were freaking loud. No wonder why Pete Townsend can no longer hear a bloody thing. Not sure if it was Purple that replaced the Who as loudest or the other way around but to my ears the Who were way louder. Liked both bands no matter how loud they were. You WONT find bands like these ever again I might add.

I must admit that first Blackmore Night album was BRILLIANT but who would of thunk here we are virtual light years since that day and still Ritchie is still playing at the Renaissance Faire. I tells ya it must be some type of time warp from an Old STAR TREK episode. The sad part about all of this is Blackmore was the greatest hard rock guitarist of all times and now it has come to this. Kind of like when Larry Holmes beat the living daylights out of Muhammed Ali and there was nothing none of us could do about it. Candice must have one helluva upper cut. LOL.

You see, here's where it always gets ridiculous. When one complains about how much money another makes. It's about choices, ability and effort. Money Talks...to me and most other folks. Don't have enough? Find a better job. But never begrudge another's success. Isn't that one of the complaints most of us have, is the lack of Record Sales that our Heroes deal with? Record sales is Money and I wish they could sell Millions of their next Album. I wish them the best and they deserve to be more successful and popular than they are. But they make up for it by touring extensively. They are Human...they want it all. Good for them. I hope they get it all.

Cheers

I agree with Priest....partially. Some terms are actually adjectives used to describe ones persona...."Poofy". Jerk is just name calling and unnecessary...Unless of course in your presence, Blackmore or whoever acted like a Jerk, then that would fall under the category of an adjective. It's all in how the word is used and why. If it's just to make a derogatory remark toward someone then again..totally unnecessary. Now, if Blackmore were to Jerk you head off your shoulders due to calling him a Jerk, that would be a verb which the action term used due to using the same word as Name calling which then pissed off Blackers, causing him to use the word for a much more valuable reason beyond just being a jerk. That would be him Jerking a Jerks head of his shoulders....

So, let's not be Jerks and namecall......unless of course it's Funny...that's all together different....he he he.

Well I'll do my best to find out something more...

Going to Greenville, SC Friday Night to see the STEVE MORSE BAND and then Sunday to Charlotte, NC. to see Blackmore's Night. How cool is that? 2 Shows in one weekend with Deep Purple's Present and Past Guitarists. Steve is playing in a very quaint setting called 'Handlers', that I'm sure will be very 'Meet and Greet' Friendly. Getting there early and ordering food reserves the table right up close for the show. Check out the site and their Advert for the band.....
     http://www.handlebar-online.com/calendar.asp#1030200918

Blackmore's Night is playing in very old Theater that we saw them play last time, that was converted from an Old Church, in the old town district square. Very nice setting for a show such as BN.
Here is the Posting on the Theater's site....
     http://www.blumenthalcenter.org/default.asp?blumenthal=59&objId=1543

All this and Halloween in between. Full Garb for 2 days....hope they stocked up on the Whiskey. This warrior and his fair maiden are gonna crack some kegs.....

Yes, there was a naked guy above the stage at a Rainbow concert in Paris (should be in 1976 or 1977...)

Great performance on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Somerville Theater. It was a nice touch with the Bagpipes before the show. And the audience joined in singing a Hurdy Gurdy version of Simon and Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair". My friends and I were surprised to hear a tribute to Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon". Although comparisons have been made because of the hair, Stevie Nicks just doesn't measure up to Candice's beauty and talent.

My brother-in-law and I almost fell over when we heard "Diamonds and Rust" (Joan Baez). Also, we both agreed that Ritchie had a "Jerry Garcia moment" during "Home Again". Ritchie was in his zone and the improvisation was well timed; but Candice did appear surprised. Our only disappointment was not hearing "Smoke On The Water", "Street of Dreams", and the 11:00 PM curfew.

It s a recession for most of us.

Maybe they could budgettize a bit?

Skipping both the rabbit and Candice would help?

Why dont DP get back into a van like in the old days?
Maybe now and then stripping Roger of his clothes and leaving him on the cold highway, hehehe

I forgot, they are too old for that. They need the comfort.

I m still confused though.....

All that gigs must have made them very wealthy.
ROTD outselled many allbums, Gillan said.

Where does all the money go?!

I m getting poorer everyday.

How about them?

Hey

Andrea

You, as many keep repeating, that thing of Ritchie leaving the stage too soon....

I NEVER witnessed that during my gig days since 1980!

Just 2 exemptions

1 Bruxelles 1982.
He left during the first song SPOTLIGHT KID cause he got annoyed people were throwing things at him, flashbulbs I think.
Made a great rendition cause Rosenthal had to play the guitarsolo on keys.....LIVE experiences. Great!

2 Amsterdam, a few years ago, in Paradiso.
But thats because the sound cranked him up, and HE got alone on stage after the ending to apologise to the audience......

Btw, Whitesnake, DIO, Gillan and so on all had their history of line up changes.......
The bad thing is more the incestuous charactre it took on instead of getting to know more new fabulous musicians.

DO now and REAL ROCK?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I wholeheartedly empathize with the growing discontempt of the proceedings of both DP and BN but I also feel WE should try to stay out of calling people names like JERK or POOF or something like that.

I admit I slipped here and there in the past......

Where to draw the line ?

And I m just a man fuming........

NOBODYsPERFECT

I cant spare gasoline, I just own a bike.....

Does someone remember the several pics of Ritchie on a bike?

God and me both like to ride a bike, hehehe

ROTD is loud?

Must go check my ears, maybe......

I admit I still do not own a original CD, not even the Tour Edition cause it had more to offer......
Before you go off ranting against me........I do own 2 vinyls of it, hehehe

Or should I divide between production and the material, adelDP?

To me the ROTD thing can be described as LIVE sounding but also as DEMO material alike.

I cant explain why.......but......I like BANANAS.......

Must be my inconsistent brain or split personality, hahaha

Tracks like Razzle Dazzle and Girls like that bewilder me.....
What were they thinking?!

Still wondering when they are going to play that extended version of SUN GOES DOWN.

In the meantime I m trying to absorb colours of Indian Summer.....
Its wintertime though.
Confusing world.

I have some strange pic during the Straight Between The Eyes Tour where Ritchie is painting something on Erics forehead.....

In the same article amongst others, pics by probably Ross Halfin, a pic with Jurgen and his father both seemingly in great mood.

Ritchie smiling and drinking.
Jurgen, still with moustache and very much Germanlooking to me, looking with tenderness at his Dad.
So I still wonder where that story came from Jurgen was left in the cold ....

I think this was 1988 during a short German tour?

They only did some dates in Italy and Germany I think....

Missed out that year due to the distance, I did regret that thinking later, and probably I was trying to learn how to budget in my year living alone and studying Psychology in Leiden.

Another note about ticket prices. The band doesn't set the prices. Well, they do as far as their fee of course influences the ticket price. Of course it will be cheaper to book a band like SMB or OTR than DP because DP has a much larger organisation that they have to pay for. BN also has a pretty large entourage while I guess SMB get their stuff pretty much into a van and drive off.

Next Album is a make or break for DP Who is going to produce it and who will come up with external material to complement the band music.
I think there will be lots of pressure on the band and its about time they come up with a classic. Bananas album is very diverse and creative but Rapture is a very one dimentional and make up your mind about the production you either love or hate it but one thing for sure its very very loud and thats why I think they will stick with Bradford.

Look forward to this, Gillans voice was astonishing in those days and the band were simply unique, the combination of Towns writing and virtuosity with the raw rock n roll delivery of the Gillan, Torme, McCoy trio was an extremely exciting mix!

Both Mike and AndreaA. Take a break both of you. WHY do you and other people have to be like that to Blackmore or Joe Lyn Turner.
I would love to see and hear Ritchie play rock again, but now this is his kind of music and he is - as always - VERY good playing. I have seen him 3 times with BN and I like most of it.
You are both a vaste of time reading. Grow up!!!

I've read both books and thoroughly enjoyed them.I believe Martin has crafted the definitive Purple history. It is certainly up to date, with some interviews for the Castle Full of Rascals book done just this past Spring. The magic lies in how the author weaves the interviews into an entertaining narrative.
He is also not shy in offering his own informed opinions on the band's high points and low ebbs.Album by album, song by song...it's all here.
Highly recommended.

I'm not going to go all political here. You read my response and answered. Good enough. I do not call you a commie. That's for you to know. I call you a fellow Purple fan, with different views and from a different background.

Funny you make mention at the beginning of #39 regarding Ticket Prices. You as usual find some weird point to ridicule Purple in comparison to whoever you prefer at the moment....right now that is obviously OTR. Well in that vein how about I am going to see Blackmore's Night on November 1st where they are charging $30.00 to $40.00. Steve Morse is playing 2 days prior and tickets are going for $18.00. So....based on your evaluation, looks like Steve is the MAN!!
Talk about Band for the Buck....

Cheers
